African American Museum

THE AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSEUM OF SOUTHERN ILLINOIS, a non-for-profit organization, was founded in 1997 by the Southern Illinois Achievers, who have aspired to educate the community of the African American cultures that will enlighten the community’s wisdom and enhance the community’s knowledge of who, what, when and why our ancestors dedicated their lives in preserving our heritage. The Museum is dedicated to identifying, preserving and portraying the outstanding achievements of African American Citizens. This African American Museum of Southern Illinois is run entirely by volunteers, along with fifteen board members, and is the only African American History Museum between Chicago and Chattanooga.
